Roden Crater, ubicado en el Desierto Pintado al norte de Arizona, es una obra de arte a gran escala, sin precedentes, creada dentro de un cono de escoria volcánica por el artista de luz y espacio James Turrell. La investigación de toda la vida del artista en el campo de la percepción visual y psicológica humana culminó en el Cráter de Roden, con suas ‘skyspaces’ especialmente diseñados donde los ciclos del tiempo geológico y celestial pueden ser experimentados directamente. Un ambiente controlado para la contemplación de la luz. Esta obra toma su lugar dentro de la tradición del arte del paisaje americano que comenzó en la década de 1960, y requiere un viaje para visitar esta obra en el remoto desierto con sus cielos nocturnos verdaderamente oscuros.

roden crater, located in the painted desert region of northern arizona, is an unprecedented large-scale artwork created within a volcanic cinder cone by light and space artist james turrell. the artist’s lifelong research in the field of human visual and psychological perception culminated into roden crater, with specially engineered skyspaces where the cycles of geologic and celestial time can be directly experienced. a controlled environment for the contemplation of light. it takes its place within the tradition of american landscape art that began in the 1960s, requiring a journey to visit the work in the remote desert with truly dark night skies.
